Ashdod, South, Israel
This project deals with the creation of a new residence for the Israel Andalusian Orchestra, An orchestra that aims to preserve the culture and music of the North African Jewish immigrants, that came to Israel during the 50s and the 60s. The orchestra resided in Ashdod, one of the only planned cities within Israel, that was home to many North African Jews.
The location of the project is at the promenade of Ashdod, inside the city’s temporary market, and one of the biggest in Israel. The design approach was to create a light structure made out of concrete slabs, steel columns, and long glass windows, that aims to create a consistent view towards the sea, and towards the market. The interior spaces are amorphic shapes made out of semi transparent polycarbonate plates that intended to create a lucid relations between seen and the unseen. Other than that, i've created a new matrix for the market, that can be used as spaces for social interaction while the market is not happening
