Dining Territories is a project that deals with the cultural meaning of food within displaced communities, the way it shows spatially, and how it can be used as a tool for action in the public domain.
As a migrant, food is a focal point for communal and daily life. Without any means and a place, buying, making, and eating food becomes a crucial part of life. Food also reflects ways of economic power, that’s why there are so many immigrant restaurants because that's the first thing that people know. It is a reflection of the systems the country plays toward migrant communities.
This project proposes a series of spatial interventions in various scales that observed existing scenography, took it, and amplified it to create spaces of pride and inclusivity. Such as a supermarket facade that turns into a rural-like marketplace. All are ephemeral and made from found or the cheapest materials.
You cannot recreate your home, life, or the clothes you had. However, by re-creating your food, you can form spaces of inclusivity and plant a piece of yourself and your culture within a place and its history.
